JPMA Continues High Pass Rates into 25th Year

The numbers are in for our written and oral exam results in 2021!

JPMA has always been known for high pass rates at first attempt and the results speak for themselves.

As we continue, in our 25th year, to provide training for those in the Superyacht, Workboat and Merchant industries, our first attempt passes have continued to impress, despite a worldwide pandemic presenting students with travel issues, sick instructors and last minute boat lockdowns.

This is all thanks to the fantastic group of experienced marine professionals at JPMA who work very hard to make this possible.

“Deck and Engineering modules and oral exams are our speciality, and we’re proud to announce our most recent results. We limit class sizes to ensure our student:instructor ratio gives the best possible outcome of exam and student experience.”

Anna Percival-Harris – Managing Director

Written exam highlights:

Deck OOW & Master modules:

Master <500 Workboat Operations – we are particularly proud to announce that the first attempt pass rate for this exam remains high at close to 90% in 2021.

Engineering modules for Yacht & SV:

Small Vessel Applied Marine Engineering -whilst some students have admitted to finding this module particularly demanding, our first attempt pass rate was 85% in 2021.

The overall pass rate for first attempt written Engineering exams was 75% in 2021, which is the highest it’s been since the introduction of the Small Vessel written modules in 2018.

Oral exam highlights:

Deck:

JPMA are renowned for their well-designed and highly successful deck oral preparation courses and pre-course prep packs, set up by the late Captain John Percival, which have seen thousands of candidates since the late 90’s. Since his unfortunate passing, our deck oral prep instructors have continued John’s legacy, resulting in continued high pass rates on first attempt.

Our Master <200gt (Code Vessels) and Master (Yachts) <500gt oral exam candidates had a pass rate of 100% at first attempt, in 2021.

OOW (Yachts) <3000gt oral exam candidates had a pass rate of 85% in 2021.

Following on from our outstanding results in 2020, we’ve maintained an overall Deck oral exam pass rate higher than it’s been in nearly 15 years at JPMA.

Engineering:

Every one of our Y4, Y3, Y2 and SV Chief <3000kW oral exam candidates passed on their first attempt in 2021.

Our Engineering results remain at an impressive level, with 91% of our Engineer oral exam candidates passing on first attempt.

With this number of JPMA students passing first time, why would you go anywhere else for your oral prep?!

Overall, these results reflect the commitment and determination that not only our students show, but also our instructors, who continue to enable seafarers to reach milestones within their maritime careers, hopefully for another 25 years and more!
