CoC Conversions

If you hold a current CoC, be it UK or non-UK issued, the MCA offer various conversion pathways which allow you to obtain a new UK CoC, to allow you to work in a different part of the industry.
Note that your non-UK CoC must have been issued by a country that the UK accepts towards the issuance of a UK FSE/CEC. To find out if your CoC is accepted, please see the MCA’s List of countries accepted towards issuing a UK FSE
Converting to a UK Yacht/Code Vessel Deck CoC
To convert your current UK or non-UK Deck CoC to a UK Yacht Deck or Master <200 (Code Vessels) CoC, see conversions A to Q listed on this page of the MCA website.
These are the types of CoC you can convert to a UK Yacht/Code Vessel CoC:
– UK Fishing Class 1, UK Fishing Class 2 and UK OOW Unlimited;
– non-UK OOW Unlimited, non-UK Chief Mate Unlimited, non-UK Master Unlimited;
– French, Italian, New Zealand Yacht OOW, Yacht Master <500, Yacht Master <3000.
Converting to a UK Small Vessel Engineer CoC

– non-UK EOOW Unlimited, non-UK 2nd Engineer <3000kW, non-UK 2nd Engineer Unlimited, non-UK Chief Engineer <3000kW, non-UK Chief Engineer Unlimited.

Converting to a UK Merchant/Commercial CoC
Converting your current UK Yacht CoC – Candidates applying for any Deck or Engineering Unlimited UK CoC may use service gained on Yachts >24m or >80gt.
You must gain the entry level CoC (Deck OOW or EOOW Unlimited) before being able to progress through the higher level Unlimited CoCs. This applies even if you already hold a Master (Yachts) <3000gt CoC. If you hold a Yacht Engineer CoC, there are conversion routes into EOOW and 2nd Engineer.
