– Auxiliary Equipment I Students

Course Content

The SV Auxiliary Equipment I course is required to obtain a Y4 CoC and the new Small Vessel EOOW <9000kW/<3000gt CoC. It is a five day course certificated by SQA examination, covering:

  • – Valves
  • – Pumps
  • – Compressed Air Systems
  • – Hydraulic & Pneumatic Control Principles
  • – Steering Gears
  • – Propulsion
  • – Transmission & Shaft Arrangement
  • – Electrical Plant

.

Students should clearly understand that this five day module is not intended to deliver all of the course material.

Due to the large volume of material to be learnt, a substantial amount of pre-course study is required, and therefore the MCA recommend that you spend at least 6 weeks working on the course material that we supply, if possible. (This timescale isn’t mandatory, but we advise you to spend as much time studying as you can, before attending the course).

The course is designed to finalise your knowledge, correct or clarify particular points and prepare you for taking the SQA exam. During the five days in the classroom, our instructors will address any challenging concepts or queries you encounter. While you’re with us during the course, our instructors will equip you with the tools necessary to confidently compose answers to questions in the final exam.

Searching for past exam questions and answers online might seem like a shortcut, but it could lead to more problems. The answers you find may be incorrect, and written by individuals without the expertise of training providers. They might not grasp the specific keywords and phrases sought by SQA markers, or understand the construction of the marking scheme.

Our goal at JPMA is to make you an accomplished seafarer by absorbing the course material and applying your knowledge, not just memorising answers. Relying solely on learning questions & answers won’t give you the depth of understanding you need for the exam, or for your future career onboard.

Therefore, investing time in learning the course material thoroughly remains the most effective strategy for success in the exam, and beyond.

.
